What kind of car, car for a student ? – what to pay attention to? Nowadays almost everyone can afford to own a car. The range of used vehicles on the market is so extensive that we can find the perfect car for ourselves in really different price ranges.
This is often the reason that tempts young people, students to buy their own first motor vehicle. However, this carries a certain risk related to the cost of maintaining our first vehicle. Many people buy a car cheap, at the same time with, for example, a powerful engine that can burn a certain amount of fuel (10l unleaded in the city is not a problem). Later we only realize that we will not be able to maintain such a vehicle. That’s why it’s worth thinking before buying, not when we’ve already spent a certain amount of money, which was often the savings of many months or years.
Let’s answer the question – how much can I spend per month on a car? And this amount should be enough for us to refuel and possibly for ongoing repairs. Very useful here is to have someone familiar with us, who for a few pennies will help us deal with replacements or repairs of our first car – this will save a lot of money that we would otherwise have to spend on various mechanics. Only when we know how much we can spend per month should we consider choosing a vehicle. Theoretically, the ideal cars for a student are small, small-liter vehicles – several things encourage us to choose such a car. They will certainly be cheaper to maintain, as parts for, for example, a Daewoo Tico are ridiculously cheap (as are, for example, Fiats like the Punto or Seicento).

You should also take into account the cost of liability insurance, which is calculated depending on the engine capacity. Vehicles with engines smaller than a liter in capacity will have the lowest insurance rate, which is also an important aspect in the choice (since sometimes insurance for a car with a larger engine by a young person can exceed even 1.5 thousand zlotys). And, of course, the key issue when choosing a vehicle for a young person is the amount we can spend on the purchase itself. When buying a used car, we have to reckon with the fact that there will certainly be something to do in it. Such as operating fluids and replacement of basic engine hardware. Therefore, it is accepted that on the vehicle itself we should spend 2/3 of the amount we have for the purchase of the vehicle. The remainder, or 1/3 of this money, will probably be spent on registration, basic operating replacements in the new acquisition, and possibly also on refueling when there is no need for some non-operating repairs or replacements in our new car. That’s why it’s worth considering when choosing a car, to ask ourselves “will I be able to maintain this car?”. There is no point in buying a powerful two-liter road monster if we are not sure that we will have the funds to pay for this car. It is definitely better to choose a small-liter vehicle at such a time. They have a number of advantages. For example, the already mentioned Tico – combustion oscillating within 5 liters of unleaded gasoline in the city. They are often found with gas installations, which provide combustion in the range of 6-6.5 liters of LPG in the city, and if you try hard on the road you can safely burn even less than 4.5 liters of gas. At current fuel prices, this is a very strong argument if we are looking for a cheap, student car. In addition to the aforementioned low prices for parts, at the same time most repairs can be done yourself – instructions for replacements or repairs of this model are ubiquitous on various forums of fans of the brand.
Buying the first car in life, especially a car for a student, is certainly an experience worth remembering. That’s why it’s worth approaching the purchase with reason, to remember it as one of the best memories. Let’s never buy emotionally, because then we can really easily overestimate our own capabilities, then in the worst case scenario we will have to sell our new dream vehicle.
