According to BIQdata.pl, 145,000 marriages will be concluded in Poland in 2020. This is 20% less than the year before. Many brides and grooms postponed their wedding due to the pandemic situation. As a result of it, the way weddings are planned has also changed – from long-term to short-term, limited to 2-4 months. Still, the organization of a wedding is usually a sizable undertaking, involving many parties. In order not to get lost in all this, it is worth writing down contracts. What to pay attention to? We suggest.
There is one universal rule that works for any type of contract – the more details it contains, the better. This will make it easier to determine any detail. Everyone is aware of the fact that brides and grooms are not able to specify, for example, the number of guests, if they sign a preliminary agreement even a few years before the wedding. Therefore, the contract should include the final dates for the number of guests, menu arrangements and all items that may still change by the time of the wedding.
Any contract, including a wedding contract, should contain basic information. These include, for example:

While the first point does not require additional explanation, it is worth paying attention to the rest of the list. The parties to the contract are the wedding hall (the person authorized to enter into contracts on behalf of the facility where the wedding will be held) and the bride or groom, or someone who finances the reception, such as one of the parents. The subject of the contract may be the rental of the hall, the rental of the hall with catering, or the contract may cover both the hall, food and guest services. In the latter case, it will be a performance contract with a representative of the wedding hall.
The date of the wedding is closely related to the availability of the hall. Very often the date of the wedding depends on it. That’s why it’s worth starting the preparations for the day, especially since the choice of the wedding hall determines the next steps – Very often the dates are so far apart that the bride and groom are not able to give a detailed number of guests. Therefore, it is important that the date of the final finalization of all the details is in the contract. Both the number of guests, the price per guest, which can also change at the turn of the year, as well as a detailed menu selection,” suggests Joanna Hoc-Kopiej, an expert representing Dwor Korona Karkonoszy, a venue that has hosted more than 750 weddings. – The wedding contract must include information about the down payment and the deadline for its payment. If the bride and groom pay in cash, it’s a good idea to keep a payment receipt. If, on the other hand, the down payment is to be paid on account, the contract should include the account number to which the money is to be transferred. At this point, the payment date for the entire wedding should also be set,” the expert adds.
The right to withdraw from the contract and the information on how much time before the wedding day you can do it without incurring costs is an important point in the contract. No one assumes that the bride and groom will not make it to the wedding day. However, there are various circumstances due to which the bride and groom have to postpone the wedding, for example. The contractual penalties mentioned in the document include the penalties that the wedding hall will incur if it improperly performs the organization of the wedding. These are also the penalties that can be imposed on the bride and groom in case of damage to the hall caused by wedding guests.
Additional attractions that will be provided by the wedding hall staff do not require an additional contract. We’re talking about room decorations offered by the organizers, or, for example, culinary attractions like a candy bar or a chocolate fountain with fruit. – Such things are added to the basic contract. However, the contract for the weddingshould be signed, for example, with the bartender who will be responsible for the drink bar or the company that creates the fireworks show. If an entertainer is to take care of the children during the event, a separate contract should also be signed with him,” the expert suggests.
Contracts signed by the bride and groom are supposed to guarantee a successful wedding. The security of contracts gives confidence that everything will take place exactly as planned.
