Sellers of parts for agricultural machinery know very well how popular parts for Ursus C-360 are. But how is it that parts for this model of tractor are so popular? To answer this question, it is worth considering for a moment the history of this model and the importance it had for Polish farmers. What are Ursus tractors and what made them so popular to this day?

The history of the Ursus plant is much older than one might suspect and dates back to the late nineteenth century. That’s when the Shareholding Society of the Specific Armature Factory is established in Warsaw. The company initially deals exclusively with the production of armatures, intended for the confectionery, distillery and other industries. Soon the center of interest of the company’s owners shifts in a slightly different direction. Internal combustion engines are becoming increasingly popular in the world, and it is at this time that they slowly begin to take the form we know today. Technology in the world is developing, and Polish designers are not lagging behind. Initially, the plants produce engines under Swedish license, but soon they can boast of their own achievements in this field. The company continued to develop, and already in 1918 a prototype of the first Polish agricultural tractor (the “tractor” popular in the interwar years), Polish trucks and buses were built. The former armature plants were already named Zakłady Mechaniczne URSUS S.A. in the 1920s. In the 1930s, the plant directs its capacity mainly to military production – it is here that the legendary Sokol motorcycles and Polish tanks are built. The company’s history is abruptly interrupted with the outbreak of war. The Germans dismantle virtually the entire machinery, which is taken to the Third Reich. In the post-war years, the URSUS plant is already developing under state tutelage. New models of tractors are created, and hundreds of thousands of units leave the assembly lines – produced for both Polish and foreign needs. The 1990s saw a series of sudden restructuring changes, leading to the plant’s bankruptcy. Today, production continues, and the owner is URSUS S.A., based in Lublin.
Just a glance at the history of the brand clearly shows how important URSUS tractors were to the Polish economy of the twentieth century. However, while before the war agricultural mechanization was the domain of only the richest, much changed in this sphere during the communist era. Successive models of URSUS tractors (both completely indigenous and manufactured under license) reached the Polish countryside and soon became one of the basic elements of the landscape. These tractors became a symbol of the developing thought of the previous era and one of our country’s most important export commodities. Today, the characteristic silhouette of Ursus tractors from that period is probably known to everyone.
Returning to the question posed in the title about Ursus C-360 parts – why are they so popular? The answer is simple. It was one of the most popular models of the brand. It was produced on a mass scale (which even today seems impressive) – more than 280,000 machines rolled off the assembly line. In time, this model of tractor could be found in probably every village. It was produced for almost 20 years, and the somewhat coarse socialist technical thought (as well as its shortcomings) made this tractor easy to operate and it doesn’t take much knowledge to repair it in case of a breakdown. A perfect illustration of the importance of this model is the fact that it has been out of production for almost 30 years, and its popularity has not declined. However, in order for these machines to continue to run and operate, proper replacement parts are needed, which are still made by URSUS factories. Today you can easily buy them in many places in the country. They enjoy unflagging popularity.
