How to quit smoking, don’t quit smoking for yourself? Cigarette smoking is one of the biggest, most harmful addictions. The cigarette kills slowly and very consistently. The mortality statistics among smokers are frightening, nevertheless they are not an incentive to break the habit. Quitting smoking in the minds of non-smokers is extremely simple. All it takes is a little strong willpower to quit smoking. Unfortunately, a non-smoker knows little about the subject and can say even less.
Quitting smoking may seem easy, but only on the surface. Strong willpower most often loses out to the power of addiction. Nicotine can be addictive, just like drugs. It is very difficult to part with cigarettes, which does not mean that it is not worth trying. Smokers most often explain their addiction with stressful work, life at a dizzying pace, problems. For them, a cigarette in such situations is an escape from reality. Such explanations no longer surprise anyone, after all, every addict will find an excuse for his addiction, just to avoid breaking it. But is it worth it?

If we don’t know how to quit smoking, if we can’t cope with it in any way, if we aren’t frightened by any statistics, by the risk of diseases, if our health doesn’t matter, and if no arguments about the benefits of not smoking appeal to us, then indeed – let’s not do it for ourselves. If we don’t care about ourselves, our own health, then let’s motivate ourselves with something, or rather someone else. No parent would want to let their child suffer through it. Exactly – the child, can and even should be the strongest motivation to break the habit. Let’s do it for him. Smoking cigarettes in front of our children, we do not know, or often do not want to know, how much we are hurting them. Our kids become passive smokers, and passive smoking carries the same health consequences as active smoking. By smoking in the presence of children, we knowingly expose them to a number of respiratory diseases, pneumonia, bronchitis, upper respiratory tract infections, increase the risk of bronchial asthma, chronic otitis media, which is the main cause of childhood deafness. In addition, children forced to inhale exhaled tobacco smoke may develop less well mentally. Besides, it has been proven that the children of smokers can create serious educational problems, this is how nicotine affects them.
Smoking in the company of our children harms them tremendously, but we must not forget about the yet unborn little ones. Neither a pregnant woman nor her partner should smoke. The baby in the belly is also a passive smoker. A smoking mother-to-be causes the baby to not receive enough oxygen, which is so necessary for proper development, and growth. The result can be the birth of a toddler who is very severely underweight. However, this is not what is most dangerous. A pregnant woman who actively, or passively, smokes puts herself at risk of stillbirth, or increases the risk of her baby dying prematurely shortly after birth. In addition, smoking can lead to pregnancy complications: miscarriage, placental detachment, or premature delivery.
Even if a woman who smokes manages to give birth to a healthy baby, it does not mean that she is no longer endangering it in any way. When a smoking mother feeds her baby, along with her milk, she doses him with poisonous substances that are an incredible danger to him. Such a newborn baby may experience anxiety, insomnia, diarrhea, vomiting, cardiovascular disorders, accelerated heartbeat, which may eventually lead to the death of the child.
Aren’t these arguments enough to quit smoking? With such knowledge, will we still knowingly endanger our innocent children ?
There is no stronger motivation to break the habit than the health and life of our own children. If we ourselves are not important enough for ourselves, if our health does not matter, then let us at least take care of our children. They didn’t come into the world to suffer for their parents’ mistakes. There is no excuse for a smoking mom and a smoking dad. The health and life of their child should be a priority in their lives. Nothing is more important. You can’t quit for yourself, quit for him.
