How to proceed in case of lost documents? An identity document is a very important piece of paper that we receive when we turn 18. Actually, we have to use this document very often, especially when we use banking services, and also when we are subjected to an inspection, by the relevant uniformed services.
Therefore, it is a paper that we must carry with us, and there is no way we can leave our document, which, after all, is supposed to be an act that proves our identity. However, things do not always look so rosy, because we must remember that this is a small thing, and it can easily get lost, we will not even feel how such a document falls out of our hands. How to proceed in case of lost documents?
Let’s remember that in the case of losing an ID card, we are very often given not only tremendous stress, but also anxiety about what someone can do with our ID. Therefore, let’s not wait, we must go as soon as possible to the municipality office in our city and notify officials of this fact, moreover, we must also visit the nearest police station, and just like in the municipality office, we should report this fact as soon as possible, because someone may use the found document, for bad purposes. Very often in such a situation, someone may take credit in our name, so if we do not report the fact that we no longer have the document, then we may pay the highest price for everything. The same procedure is repeated when the document is destroyed, and its possible theft, which is also possible. This is how we should act today according to the current law. If we are abroad at the moment, for example, working outside the country, then the matter of loss of the document, we report to the first Polish consulate, only after this fact is recorded. The loss of the document is confirmed by an appropriate letter, in which we must first of all give our name and surname, as well as the address of residence. Obligatory elements are also Names of parents, and family name. In the last point, we must include all information, related to the person from whom we received the previous ID card.

Returning to reporting the matter to the police, mere reporting is not enough, we must have some kind of confirmation, which can be a simple note, or the fact that the report was recorded. If the ID card was lost by a person before the age of eighteen, then the fact that it was reported can only be confirmed by an adult, such as a parent. As for minors, proofs issued to children are very often temporary, so in this case the documents should not be used for some disreputable purpose. As for the municipality, they still have to process our application, this is only possible through proper verification, the data we provided at the time of application. Of course, the moment our version is confirmed, then we get a paper that informs us, above all outsiders, that we have lost our proof. Of course, we can not rest on our laurels, the moment we get such confirmation, then we are obliged, to apply for a new ID card. This is how we should proceed if we lose our documents.
Today, obtaining a new document is fully free, so we do not have to worry about any costs. We won’t have to wait long for the proof either, for a new ID card, we should get it within 31 days, from the moment we submit a properly completed application. To sum up, a quick reaction will allow us to prevent the possible trouble we are exposed to, at the moment when a stranger would use the ID card we lost, and that’s why it’s better to take care of everything right away the moment we realize we don’t have our ID card.
